Introduction

Barry House is located in central London on the Hyde Park estate just north of the Park.
Paddington Station is just 3 minutes walk away along Sussex place and London Street.

The building is is in the Hyde Park Conservation Area and is grade II listed. There are 2 steps from street level to our doorstep. We have 17 bedrooms with 2 located on the ground floor. The rooms are spread over 4 upper floor and we do not have a lift.
We do not have any fully accessible bedrooms, however some rooms are suitable for people with limited mobility.
The breakfast room is on the lower ground floor, however we are happy to provide breakfast in rooms for those who are unable to access the breakfast room.
We can cater for varying dietary requirements.

  • Paddington Station is 3 minutes walk away
  • Lancaster Gate Station is 4 minutes walk away
  • Taxis (including accessible taxis) are readily available.
  • The nearest Bus Stop is by Paddington Station and there are several bus routes that serve the area (7, 27, 36, 148, 159, 205, 332, 436 and also the Big Bus Sightseeing tour bus)
  • The pavement on the street leading to Barry House is level, but there are 2 steps up to our door.
  • There is a local company which supplies equipment that can be hired, ask at the front desk for details.

Car Parking and Arrival

  • We do not have any private parking.
  • On street parking is available about 50 meters away. This is a pay by phone or pay by credit card service. Westminster Council operates a restricted scheme for visitors with a Disabled Permit – Disabled permits allow one extra hour free of charge when using a Council pay and display parking space. Disabled Parking permits are not valid on yellow lines.
  • There is adequate street lighting.
  • The front door is 750mm/29.5ins wide.
  • Assistance can be given with luggage.

Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed at the reception. Help is provided bringing luggage inside if required.
  • The entrance hallway is level throughout, the flooring is wood with 1 large rug.
  • Seating is available with a sofa and an armchair.
  • The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting and wall lights.
  • A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request.

Bedrooms

  • On the ground floor there are 2 bedrooms – one triple room with a double bed plus a single bed. The shower is an easy to access one, but this room is not suitable for an unaided wheelchair user. The second ground floor bedroom is a family room that sleeps up to 5 people.
  • On the first floor there iare 4 bed rooms 2 double rooms , a twin room and a triple room reached by stairs only.
  • On the second to forth floors there are 10 further bedrooms.
  • Furniture can be easily rearranged in ground floor rooms if required.
  • The height of all of the beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is 450mm/17.7ins.
  • Rooms are bright and evenly lit. Overhead lighting is controlled by a wall switch. Bedhead lamps are also in each room.
  • All of our bedrooms offer the following: Lighting as above, good colour contrast between the floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, widescreen digital television with remote control, subtitles, and audio description facilities.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)

  • All rooms have en-suite bathrooms except the budget single rooms on the 4th floor.
  • The ground floor bedroom en-suite bathroom does not have a wide door opening or level access
  • The toilet height is 400mm/15.7ins.
  • The wash basin height is 800mm/31.5ins.
  • Lever taps on the washbasin and bath.
  • Well lit with overhead lights and a fluorescent light in the mirror

Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

  • All public areas, halls, stairs, landing, are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights.
  • There is short pile carpet on the stairs, hall and landing.
  • There is a continuous flight of 14 steps to the first floor mezzanine level with a handrail on one side with a further step to the bedroom.
  • A further continuous flight of 5 steps to the first floor bedrooms

Public Toilet

  • There is a small unisex toilet, with one toilet and hand basin on the first floor (mezzanine level) accessed by a continuous flight of 14 steps with one handrail.
  • There is level entry but no space to the side of the toilet.
  • The toilet height is 400mm/15.7ins.
  • The toilet is well lit with a single overhead light.

Dining Room

  • The dining room is situated on the lower ground floor – continuous flight of 14 steps from the ground floor with a handrail on one side.
  • The door opening to the dining room is 750mm/29.5ins wide and it is level throughout.
  • Well lit room with overhead lighting.
  • The flooring is wood.
  • We are able to cater for varying dietary requirements. Please advise us when making a booking.
  • Breakfast is served but you can help yourself to fruit juices cereals and fruit.
  • Crockery is colour contrasted with the table where possible.
